GME - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can you apply for an internship/residency/fellowship program at NMCSD if you are not in the U.S. Military?
No you cannot, you must be an active duty member of the US Military. However if you are interested in a career with the US Military medical corps and you have questions or need assistance you may contact CDR David Mclean 301-295-1217 or email him email@example.com
Yes you may. You would need to check with your school as well as our GME Office to make sure that the school you attend has a MOU (memorandum of understanding) between our facility and yours. MOU's on average take approximately 3 to 6 months so please be aware this is a legal and sometimes lengthy process. You should also be aware that you will not be paid for the time you are doing that rotation without orders.
Can you do a clerkship at NMCSD if you are military HPSP if you are not on orders during the time of the rotation?
Will there be lodging set up for me when I arrive for my clerkship?
No, You are responsible for your own lodging and transportation. When you work with SATO to arrange your plane tickets, SATO will also set up your lodging arrangements as well. As NMCSD does not have a BOQ, you must get a non-availability statement to be reimbursed for your stay in non-government lodging.
Where should I report the first day of my rotation?
To avoid confusion and unnecessary roaming around, you should ALWAYS report to the GME OFFICE in building 6, 4th Floor. Yes, even if you have been here before you MUST report to GME to check in. You should NEVER report to the department you are working in first. The GME office will get you properly processed and get you on your way to the other places you will need to check in when you first arrive.
Where do I do my last day of training at NMCSD?
Just as you checked in you MUST check out starting at the GME Office. Here we will check you out of the command and send you to the proper check out areas in the hospital
