Graduate Medical Education (GME)

For over 70 years, Naval Medical Center San Diego's Graduate Medical and Dental Education (NMCSD-GME/GDE) Department has been preparing physicians, dentists, psychologists, and pharmacists with the knowledge, skills, and expertise necessary to provide outstanding care to its patients. The dedicated staff of NMCSD have successfully assisted thousands of health care professionals complete their post graduate training to become some of the finest military and civilian health care professionals within their specialties.
 
GME’s mission is to improve healthcare, patient safety, and operational readiness by assessing and advancing the quality of residency education and faculty development; graduating competent independent practitioners who demonstrate proficiency in the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) general competencies; and who are ready to lead and serve in the operational environment.
 
NMCSD is fully accredited by the Joint Commission.  Additionally, each physician training program is fully accredited by the ACGME.  Our dental program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).

ERAS

Navy Medicine & Readiness Training Command San Diego does not participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). In order to apply you must be an Active Duty member of the United States Armed Forces and utilize the Medical Operational Data System (MODS) application in accordance with  BUMED NOTICE 1524.
