For Naval Medical Center San Diego’s (NMCSD) Chief Hospital Corpsman Charlene Green, that is exactly what transpired for her during the recent holiday period. Green, who serves as one of NMCSD’s Laboratory Department divisional leading chief petty officers, and who is a native from Brooklyn, New York, oversees all aspects of operation of the hospital’s advanced laboratory department — to include its blood related divisions.

CPO Advancement Exam hopes for NMCSD Sailor

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The basketball court at Naval Medical Center San Diego’s (NMCSD) gym was converted to a test center as more than 130 first class petty officers were administered the FY 2024 Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Advancement Exam, 18 Jan. Off to the side as you entered the court is a table packed with cell phones while their rightful owners are taking the exam. You could hear the phones’ murmurs placed to their lowest setting permitted for some, while others depleted their battery as they vibrated.

Two different roads, one final destination for pair of NMCSD pharmacists

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — As Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) celebrates National Pharmacist Day, 12 Jan., we present two pharmacists whose parallel trajectory lead them to serving in one of the hospital’s most relied upon departments by beneficiaries who expect a precision and expediency that leaves zero room for complacency.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Jan. 4, 2024) Legalman First Class Shawn Dorman, Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) Office of the Command Judge Advocate leading petty officer, honors the 52nd anniversary of the Legalman (LN) rating. Dorman, a Philadelphia, Pa. native, joined the Navy in 2014. "It's an honor to serve not only in the Navy, but to also serve in a rate that I covet so highly," says Dorman. "To all of the LNs in the fleet, I wish you the warmest happy LN birthday and never lose sight of the vital work that you conduct on behalf of your command." The mission of NMCSD is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality health care services, and shape the future of military medicine through education, training, and research. Legalman celebrates rating, reflects on service

Naval Medical Center San Diego — As the U.S. Navy celebrates the 52nd anniversary of the Legalman (LN) rating, we take a look at one LN at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) who cherishes the role he plays helping ensure the command's legal duties are carried out. "Coming from a family comprised of lawyers who served in both the public and private sector, I have always had a calling to purse a legal career," says Legalman First Class Shawn Dorman, NMCSD Office of the Command Judge Advocate leading petty officer. "As an LN I have served on aircraft carriers and forward deployed locations and the one constant about the rate is that we are always in demand."

Congressman Scott Peters visits NMCSD, learns about MTF capabilities

Elizabeth Adriano, NMCSD director, who offered broader context on the current composition of the command and its mission; and, how it relates to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) construct.
