Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

The Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility division in the OB/GYN department welcomes the opportunity to assist beneficiaries with growing their families. Our fellowship trained staff physician is highly skilled in the evaluation and treatment of the following conditions:

  • Primary infertility (patients struggling to get pregnant for the first time)

  • Secondary infertility (patients able to get pregnant on their own initially who then struggle to get pregnant after that)

  • Recurrent pregnancy loss

  • Hormonal conditions that can impact reproductive health.

Services offered in this clinic include ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF) with a patient’s own eggs or with donor eggs, and fertility preservation for eligible beneficiaries. In some cases surgery is needed to correct abnormalities with the uterus prior to initiating fertility treatments, which our staff physician will perform.
The treatment options available for each patient may vary based on a review of the medical history, prior treatments, and age. Patients undergoing IVF will receive treatment both at NMCSD and at a partner facility by our staff Reproductive Endocrinologist.

Group Prenatal Care

NMCSD is pleased to offer patients enrollment in our group prenatal care program. This optional program is an alternative to receiving care in the clinic setting. This program is designed specifically for patients who are interested in building relationships with other pregnant people and sharing the experience of pregnancy with them. It is also ideal for patients who may not have a local support network.

Patients interested in group prenatal care are placed in a group with 10-12 other people who are due to deliver around the same time. There are 7 sessions of two hours each that are scheduled throughout pregnancy. Each of these sessions will provide time for individual physical assessment (weight, blood pressure, baby's growth, etc.), discussion about pregnancy, birth, and new babies, and time to share with the other patients. The sessions will be led by a Certified Nurse Midwife and another staff member. After your baby is born, there will be a postpartum 'reunion', which is a unique opportunity to share your birth story and your baby with the others in the group. At this time all group prenatal care visits are conducted at our Miramar location.

Many people who participate in this type of prenatal care develop strong and long-lasting friendships with the people in their group. Your partner or other support people are welcome to attend with you. Please do not bring your other children with you as you will not be able to care for them during your visit.

Group prenatal care has been well received since it was first offered at NMCSD. It combines the three important parts of prenatal care: assessment, education, and support, into one whole. This means that you won't have to come for separate, individual visits unless you have a medical problem that needs closer monitoring. All of your time spent here should be productive and fun!
