Nurse Midwifery Team

The OB/GYN department at NMCSD has a robust nurse midwifery team that provides the majority of prenatal care for our low-risk patients with uncomplicated pregnancies. Midwifery care is offered both as individual appointments and as group prenatal care in our Centering Pregnancy program.

Nurse midwives are registered nurses that underwent an additional 2-3 years of training on the management of routine pregnancies, deliveries and postpartum care. Our midwives are experts in the management of routine pregnancies, and many have a special interest in complementary medicine to help manage common conditions that occur during pregnancy such as headaches and back pain. Our nurse midwives and physicians work as a team to collaborate on any issues that may arise during pregnancy to ensure a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery for both the patient and the baby.
