Dear Sir or Ma'am: Thank you for your interest in The American Board of Anesthesiology's (ABA) Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program (MOCA) at the Bioskills and Simulation Training Center of the Naval Medical Center in San Diego (NMCSD). We are honored to be endorsed as part of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Simulation Education Network.
This course is designed to provide education in the management of critical events in anesthesia through the use of high fidelity simulation with focus on hemodynamic instability and hypoxemic crisis. Additionally, it promotes teamwork, leadership, communication, and process improvement skills. The course does not involve a pass/fail evaluation and is rather an experiential learning opportunity. Upon completion of the course participants are eligible for 20 points to satisfy the ABA MOCA Part IV requirements with an opportunity to receive an additional 5 points upon completion of course follow-up and implementation of practice changes developed in the course. Additionally, you will be eligible to earn 8 Category 1 CME credits for your participation.
The course will last approximately 8 hours including short breaks and an intermission for lunch. The cost is $140.00 for active duty military and GS personnel and $1600.00 for all other participants. Though we are a military facility, no military affiliation is necessary to attend this course. We will do our best to accommodate all active duty and GS anesthesiologists when booking our classes. We limit the class size to 6 participants to ensure an optimal experience for each participant.
The dates of our 2021 courses UPDATED June 10, 2021:
Due to unforeseen circumstances all MOCA simulation courses have been suspended.
It is anticipated that courses will resume later this year or early 2022. Check back periodically for updates.
