MOCA Programs

Dear Sir or Ma’am:

Thank you for your interest in the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program (MOCA®) jointly provided by the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Bioskills and Simulation Training Center at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD).

This course is designed to provide education in the management of critical events in anesthesia through the use of high fidelity simulation with focus on hemodynamic instability and hypoxemic crisis. Additionally, it promotes teamwork, leadership, communication, and process improvement skills among anesthesiologists. The course does not involve a pass/fail evaluation and is rather an experiential learning opportunity. Upon completion of the course participants are eligible for 20 points to satisfy the ABA MOCA® Part IV requirements with an opportunity to receive an additional 5 points upon completion of course follow-up and implementation of practice changes developed in the course.  This activity has also been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.

The course will last about 7-8 hours including a registration period and an intermission for lunch.  The cost is $340.00 for active duty military and GS personnel and $1600.00 for all other participants.  As we are a military facility, we do give preference to military and GS when booking our classes. We limit the class size to 6 participants to ensure an optimal experience for each participant.

The dates of our remaining 2024 courses are: Oct. 26, and Dec. 9.

2025 course dates: Feb. 1, Mar. 31, May 17, Sept. 8, Oct. 18, Dec. 8.

UPDATED Oct. 10, 2024

You will be sent additional information after we have enrolled you in the course.   We will enroll you in a class based on availability.  We would also appreciate knowing if you are active duty, GS, reservist, or civilian.  If you are interested in participating in one of our courses, please indicate your preferred date.

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to assisting with your continuing education.
