Equine Therapy Reduces Staff Stress and Anxiety at Military Hospital

FALLS CHURCH, Va. — Military facility animals—whose job is to de-stress staff and patients at hospitals and clinics—come in all shapes and sizes.

Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) kicked off the Health and Wellness department’s Week of Wellness, Oct. 17. The week-long event covers a broad range of topics all aimed at improving one’s overall health and wellness. Jacqueline Arvizu, NMCSD Health and Wellness division officer, speaks with Lt. Cmdr. Travis Kelley, NMCSD deputy chief information officer, about dental hygiene and tobacco cessation, the week's first theme. NMCSD's mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.

Week of Wellness Kicks Off at NMCSD

SAN DIEGO, CA — Naval Medical Center San Diego kicked off the Health and Wellness department’s Week of Wellness fair, Oct. 17. October is filled with numerous health and wellness observations ranging from World Smile Day, observed on Oct. 7, to Mental Illness Awareness Week, observed Oct. 2-8.
