Program Information

Mission Statement

This program aims to develop skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to provide the highest quality diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive management of all psychiatric and related medical disorders in each of its residents for populations of all genders of all age groups, ethnicities, and social situations with a special emphasis on the psychiatric care of active duty members of the armed forces and their families.

Program Structure

  • 28 Residents (projected 2022 – 2023)
  • 8 PGY-1s
  • 8 PGY-2s
  • 6 PGY-3s

PGY-1 Rotations

  • Adult Inpatient Psychiatry (12 weeks)
  • Child and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry at Rady’s Children’s Hospital (4 weeks)
  • Substance Abuse and Rehabilitation Program at Point Loma (4 weeks)
  • Emergency Psychiatry Service (8 weeks) and Transitional Telehealth Program (2 weeks)
  • Adolescent Medicine (4 weeks)
  • Inpatient Internal Medicine (4 weeks)
  • Ambulatory Care Medicine (4 weeks)
  • Emergency Medicine (4 weeks)

Academics

  • Over 50 courses
  • Didactics one morning each week
  • 100% psychiatry board pass rate

2. Navy Medicine & Readiness Training Command San Diego does not participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). In order to apply you must be an Active Duty member of the United States Armed Forces and utilize the Medical Operational Data System (MODS) application in accordance with  BUMED NOTICE 1524.
